Climate Change Project

Project Description:

In this independent project, we studied the truth about climate change and its natural happenings. We then uncovered how human interaction plays into this process. Then, we created something that represents our new understanding of this phenomenon.

There were all sorts of projects; recycled clothing, artificial trees, even trash art. I made a mural with a group of two others, depicting the Colorado-prevalent topic: snowpack. Most importantly, we depicted what threats the sped up process of climate change holds over this key source of groundwater.

Project Reflection:

The Biological Needs of Adolescents Project

Project Description:

In this project, we studied adolescence. We also did this in Humanities, but we were studying the socio-psychological side of adolescence there. In Biology, we brainstormed the physical pieces of adolescence, whether it be brain development, puberty, or other biological happenings in the body of a 10-24 year old.

Personal Reflection:

If I were to do this project again, I'd want to go more in-depth as to the biology of this subject of adolescence and how that can be represented. I think I was more subconsciously gravitating to the mental side of adolescence (which can also be biological, but I wasn't representing it like that), because I think it's really important, which is how my first infographic (describing the physical impact of mental health) came into being. I kind of wish I would have done something similar for my final. I learned that there isn't really much statistics on teen bullying, at least not since 2007 style "bullying isn't cool!" posters. I don't know this for fact, but I feel like little kids are behaving more like adolescents nowadays. I see toddlers and seven year olds walking around with rap music on their phones, and swearing in a little clique of buddies. And I just realized, I'm so not like that. I'm really, as I described when I was sick one day, a friendly simplistic 2007 personality archetype.

My biggest challenge in this project was coming up with a final idea on the spot. For my final at least, it was hard to make a decision for what I wanted to make because it felt so hurried. It was like I couldn't get deep enough to think critically as to what I want to raise awareness about in such a short amount of time. Next time, I would have made time to think deeper, and likely make a great project that I feel reflects what I want the world to know.

My greatest success during this project was expressing my creativity in the form of what matters to me. I immediately felt like mental health stats needed to be more widely represented, so I did it for my first infographic, and I did it in color. I was very proud of my first infographic, since I'm a big writer, it was hard to visually represent things without much text. But being also an artist, this was a stupendous time of growth for my visual communication skills. With my final, I worked really hard on those stats! It was hard to find them, and hard figure out how I want to order them in my representation. But I persevered as much as possible, and ended up with a not too shabby infographic! I tried to be as colorful as possible, which isn't hard for me, as such a colorful human, but it was still difficult. But yeah! Perseverance!
