Drawing

my peace is alive and well when partaking in such a beautiful thing as art.

Chiaroscuro charcoal portrait

"The Stare" on __" x __" white paper.

This portrait was the first time I've ever sat down and drawn an animal seriously. It was all unrealistic pensketches before this! It took 3 days after a two week break of "what do I make now?" after I finished my practice portrait. First time using charcoal, love it!

*Drawn from picture reference.

Continuous line drawing

"California Poppies, and the Girl of Freedom" on 24" x 18" paper.

Mixed media.

The continuous line is an important technique because it's a strong foundation for any drawing/painting as it strengthens gestural skills for accuracy. This technique really captures life, action and expression of any muse in a very quick, squiggly practice.

I was inspired by my time in California of last year, gazing at all the absolutely gorgeous, vibrant plant-life, the ocean, and the dear-in-my-heart vintage car show every Thursday night downtown. Much love for this portion of my life! I used multiple images to create this piece, but most imagery came from my mind and experience.

Pastel portrait

In this project, I produced a portrait of Chidera Eggerue, out of inspiration of her activism, conducting the message that all bodies matter. First, we graphed our images fresh out of the printer and graphed our paper as well, succeeding a realism look. We then used many techniques on our portraits such as starting with complimentary colors, and adding skin-tones on top of that. Some challenges I faced in this project were that I felt I had a lot of time, but then it shortened so quickly; leaving me panicked that I wouldn't finish, and that I wouldn't be able to aid my classmates with tips. (I love to be a helping hand.) However, as a whole, I feel proud of this project and happy with my vibrant end result.

   Size: 18" x 24"

Complimentary Colors used: purple to yellow, and green to orange.
