Course Reflection

I loved it! I believe that the overall feeling of what I gained this year is basically summed up in my Patterns Portfolio, though it's not exactly the same as how I feel now. I suppose I'm more boldly myself because of this class. At this school, self-acceptance is not only encouraged, but I feel like it happened naturally for me because of being around people who love themselves, and I especially noticed this in math class. The Patterns Portfolio has really stuck with me because I was really proud of it, and I think it could be used to somewhat pay an ode to my current feelings, only stronger. It depicts my pride, curiosity, new experiences. And now, I still feel proud, curious and excited, and have experienced a lot of growth during this course. I really feel that I'm part of everything now. A lot of really brilliant students in this class advocate that they don't understand the math sometimes, and thats given me confidence and acceptance over the fact that while I'm different, we are all the same as well. And in times of confusion, Torrey simplifies and settles our thoughts as best she can. It's made me realize that genius comes in many forms, and sometimes in more things than others, and that is completely ok. Part of what this school is about is acceptance and encouragement, and I feel that so much more than I thought I ever would in this class. In comparison to this, I think that we can see how my confidence has actually increased by viewing the creativity and boldness of my projects. I've become quite strengthened in my uniqueness and I believe that really shows on the Tessellations POW and Bee POW. In addition, because of being in this class, I learned how to advocate. Whether it be from my group or Torrey, I have succeeded much more by learning the importance of advocacy. I am prideful of the power I've achieved by being here, thank you Torrey!

POW reflections:

POWs I'm proud of:

Tessellations:

I think that the confidence I've gained by being in this class is really illustrated in this POW. Our goal was to make a repetative shape that fits with duplicate of itself continuously. Going with a human face, it was risky, but I did it anyway because the fear of not being "good enough" in this class had vanished. My creativity for this one was really thriving too, I made on a recycled box, which ALSO tessellates with other boxes! Hahaha.

Bees:

I'm proud of this POW because I got to paint and I wrote something pretty clear and sophisticated. It's not like my other POWs on sheets of paper where I ask a million questions like "is this right?" and "if I put a bunch of answers do I get credit for any that are right?". No, these POWs just aren't like that. While this is a math class, these POWs are my favorite because I can make art about them, and that makes me really happy! It's a much better understanding to me.
